The Story of Purim
A quick (10 minute) look at some details of the Book of Esther, the story of Purim, that you might not have heard in Hebrew school, either because they are a little too racy to tell children, or because they get a little complicated and tricky to explain. I used the images of finger puppets from toriavey.com/, who has no connection to my site but has lots of great Jewish stuff on hers!

Hebrew Alphabet Part 4
Просмотров 46 тыс.6 лет назад
It took 7 years, but it's finally done! ... but seriously folks... I lost access to my RUclips account back in 2011. I got into it again a year or two ago, but I didn't think anybody was still interested in this. Then I heard from William Quick, who was interested in seeing the last part. I found the 7-year-old video and did my best to add audio to it, and here it is! Sorry about the delay! (sh...

A quick introduction to the Hebrew alphabet, showing each consonant and each vowel and telling the pronunciation as you will hear it in American synagogues. I am part-way through another series that goes into more depth and yes, I will be completing that but I gather that some people just wanted it quick and dirty. So here's the entire alphabet in less than 10 minutes!
Hebrew Alphabet Part 2

Part 2 of this introduction to the Hebrew Alphabet introduces the concept of Hebrew vowels and demonstrates five vowels and five more consonants. It will probably require two more (shorter) parts to complete the alphabet. (This version corrects the original one, which was missing some translations and had a typo in one of the transliterations)

    I am muslim and I hate those who oppress on palastine and I love the hebrew languge because there are only four holy book Allah revealed on holy messenger or prophets .1torah (torat)was given to moses(musa).2.bible(injeel) was given to jesus(easa)..3.gosphil (zabur)was given to david (daud).and last one 4.holy quran was given to muhammad (ahmmad) ❤ I believe moses jesus david were holy prophets of Allah as muhammad ..Allah also say so in holy quraan people made changes in torah bible and gosphil so it is compulsory on every muslim to admit that torah gosphil and bible are holy book but we need not to readthem because it may astray us because the anceint scholar made changes in these holy books for there benefits because all those scholar were atheist beleived that universe came to exist itself without creater Allah when the holy prophets came with holy books and miracles they admit them to harm the holy books and holy prophets.❤❤

    Actually, Gimel CAN sound like a soft G at times, specifically when there is a "Geresh" in front of it. It basically looks exactly like an apostrophe. Note, however, that it seems to only occur in Modern Hebrew.

    At the end there, the name for God יהוה‎ is pronounced Yah-hoo-wah. I guess the Jehovah's witnesses got it right the closest - Jehovah ie. Ye-ho-vah. It means "he is" and uses the word for "he", but makes it into a verb by adding the yah prefix It's also interesting to compare it to the prophets name יֵהוּא "Yehu" which means "Yah is he". The only difference is the silent final letter, Alif or Ha lol. So it's: "Yah is he" vs "He is (yah)" / Is he vs he is Lol the real problem with this word is that the verb "to be" is not used in semitic languages in the preset tense. It's only when he says "I am that I am" אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה‎‎, where you get the imperfective aspect (future tense in Hebrew) and there the Hebrew word "to be" אֶהְיֶה‎‎ shows up (conjugated). This is why people found it so difficult to remember how to pronounce God's name

    • @yomomma9687
      @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

      Actually, since there's no imperfect in English and since it translates into a progressive aspect, the phrase "I am that I am" is probably better translated as "I be that I be". In other words "I always am and always will be" (and always was), everlasting, eternal and unchanging. When it says, in the beginning was "the word" and the word was with him. That word doesn't mean Jesus. It is actually just the word "be", cos God always "is". And when he wants something (miraculous) to happen like when he wanted to create Adam, he just said "be" and Adam "was" (created). So the word became flesh there. And Adam in that respect is like Jesus. God said "be" and Jesus was created. In Arabic the word "be!" is "kun". So they say that God says to something "be (so) then it is" - "kun fa-yakoon". There's the ya prefix again for "it is" yakoon.

    • @yomomma9687
      @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

      ... he only difference is that they don't say that he himself is "the word". His word is "kun" (be) when he wants to create something, and yes, he himself always was and always will be... ...but he is not himself created, so he himself is not "the word" - he's just God. Everything else is created by his word. So you can't call him the word, "be", cos that's just his godly power, but you can call him "he is", because that's true, he always is and always will be. It's just important to distinguish that he was himself not created by himself or by anything else. He just always was

  • @yomomma9687
    @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

    It's crazy how close this langage is to arabic. So many words are the same.... ...except that you're pronouncing them wrong lol, in a European way. It's supposed to be a semitic language. That's the problem with Hebrew that's spoken today, even in Israel. It's too influenced by white people, who whitewashed the language. I'm 100% sure the ancient Hebrew sounded nothing like how Israelis pronounce it today. One obvious thing that always stood out to me is that they use the German R instead of the Arabic/Spanish rolling r. I'm 100% that's wrong, cos it makes the language sound soo German looool

    • @yomomma9687
      @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

      And I would say that anybody who wants to learn the correct pronunciation of Hebrew should really study Arabic - they're both semitic cousin languages and so are VERY similar. And that way you also find out why there are so many letters that come up twice for the same sound. They're not actually the same letter. Eg. the Kof is like the English K, but the Qof is like the Q in Qur'an - it's not pronounced as a velar K at all. It's a uvular sound.

    • @yomomma9687
      @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

      And I found it so interesting that there's 2 S letters. At first I thought the Sadekh must be the dark S (Saad letter in Arabic), because the Shin already makes the S or Sh sound (the Seen and Sheen letters in Arabic which are both light sounds)... ... but then I saw how some of the words are spelt and I was surprised, for example that the prophet name Yusuf (Joseph) is spelt with Sadekh, which MAKES NO SENSE if Sadekh was a dark S. So I was like, okay... that's weird - theres NO WAY this prophet's name would be spelt with that letter. So I guess Hebrew just as two light S's then for some strange reason, with no difference between them.... But then I realised duuudeee! The Sadekh is not the dark S at all - it's just the regular light S sound like in English (the Seen in Arabic), and it's the Shin that's the Arabic Sheen! So I'm sure now, originally in ancient Hebrew the Shin used to be the SH sound only, not an S sound too, cos you've already got the Sadekh letter for the REAL letter S. So that S alternative sound for Shin must be a later corruption when people alternatively pronounced some SH words as just S. You see it as well from English words like "Jesus" - it used to be pronounced Yeshu' like in Hebrew - which shows that the S in Jesus was corrupted by the Greeks from an SH to an S sound. And I'm sure the same thing happened to many Hebrew words that got corrupted under influence from other languages. The original Shin is Shin, NOT Sin too. There never used to be those dots to differentiate it

    • @yomomma9687
      @yomomma9687 8 месяцев назад

      So then I thought okay, so Hebrew doesn't have a dark S then at all... despite having a dark T? But then you said the word for charity and you spelt it with Tzadi and with Qof and I was like OH MY GOD! Duuudeee that's the arabic word "Sadaqah" صدقة, cos that word is spelt with a letter Qaf and a dark S at the beginning. Soooo... it turns out that it's the Tzadi letter that's ACTUALLY the dark S (Arabic"Saad") letter!!! I never made that connection before, because I thought that was just a unique Hebrew "tz" sound that doesn't exist in Arabic. But it's obvious to me now that the Tzadi is actually the dark S and it must have changed from that to a "tz" sound over history looool You know... cos why would there be dark consonants in ancient Hebrew (which nowadays are no longer pronounced that way), and yet there's no dark S? Surely the Tz letter must have been the old dark S, which is pretty much impossible to pronounce anyway for Europeans, so that's why they changed it to tz.. And like I say, from the spelling of words, you can see how the letter REALLY used to be pronounced... ....but you need to know just basic Arabic for the true original pronunciation of these Hebrew letters, cos Arabic is a real ancient semitic language that is still spoken today, and it never went extinct like Hebrew did. Arabic contains those difficult semitic letters that are strange and foreign to European ears, and so only by studying Arabic letters and some basic Arabic words that are the same in Hebrew, will you be able to revive the correct ancient Hebrew pronunciation back. Pronouncing Hebrew in a European way like it's done today in Israel just seems soooo wrong to me now cos, COME ON! Hebrew is a SEMITIC language. It's not freaking German! Stop pronouncing it like that, seriously loooool

    “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Yeshua ישוע (Jesus) and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the YHWH יהוה (LORD) shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13

    When this instructor says "some 'older' jews might pronounce a given consonant or vowel (thusly) rather than (whatever)" she means to say: Older American (Conservative) Jews raised in the 1950s & 1960s who were taught proper Ashkenazi Hebrew pronunciation, i.e. before the tyranny of Israeli (Sephardic) Hebrew pronunciation conquered American Jewry (late 70s/80s). Much variety (music) and elegance is _lost_ with Israeli pronunciation were it's all hard T's and two or three vowel signs all become the same 'ah' sound.

    The Vav is false, the V does not exist in ancient Hebrew and neither does the letter J!, where did you look for that? The exact letter of the Divine proper name is from the tetragram YHWH and it is not not YHVH is wrong? A this letter V does not exist in ancient Hebrew, it is the W more exactly, you believe that the YHWH is Yeshua, you confuse between GOD the FATHER and God the Son, really you are blind, you do not have the HOLY HOPE to know THE TRUTH? Your video is absurd and false half-truth and half-lie! Don't you know that Yeshua is in the image of GOD the FATHER, he is the intermediary that Yeshua presented himself as IF GOD would be the FATHER YHWH - YAHWEH who is replaced by his Son Yeshua! You know nothing of THE TRUTH, this is what the HOLY SPIRIT tells us! You are foolish, you who commit the iniquity of drawing anything and your words are false testimony to lies. Moreover it is not yeshua but rather Yahshoa, Yahshoa bearing the same family name of GOD the FATHER YAHWEH, by these first three letters YAH which means "I AM" even the ancient prophets also bearing this name of God Esayah is Isaiah -yah in French. Your video is completely wrong! The DIVINE NAME of GOD the FATHER YHWH - YAHWEH, is not the same NAME for God the Son, it is Yahshoa Ha Mashiach. (not Yeshua it is wrong). Let no one erase this message of THE TRUTH, he who erases will be bound to be JUDGE at the Judgment Seat of Christ according to Matthew 16: 19 and 18: 18. Apologies for the spelling mistakes. THANKS . AMEN. HALLELUYAH.
